About the Choir
The Edinburgh Bach Choir performs three concerts a year with up to 100 singers.
One concert a year is usually dedicated to JS Bach. In addition we have sung a wide repertoire in recent years, ranging from 16th to 20th century composers: Monteverdi to Constant Lambert, Byrd to Durufle, Handel to Stravinsky.
The Edinburgh Bach Choir has a mixed membership of up to 100, and always welcomes new voices.
The core of our activity as a choir is our Tuesday night meetings. Under the guidance of our Music Director and our piano accompanist, we learn and practise the pieces for our next concert.
We meet from 7.15pm to 9.30pm in St Cuthberts Church, Lothian Road, EH1 2EP.
We have 3 ‘terms’ per year:
September-December, January-March and April-May. We usually have a break from rehearsals over the summer, but occasionally have performed in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Future plans for the Choir include maintaining the quality and range of performances, but with a continuing commitment to the works of J.S. Bach. Collaboration(s) with other choirs on larger works are regularly considered, and previous partnerships resulted in successful performances of Gerontious and the Verdi Requiem.
